PHILIPSBURG – Members of U 2 Can Move (U2CM) on Thursday, March 31, began to register and weigh in for the project “Move ‘N Lose.â€
This project pools members of the U2CM organization into 2 groups, led by 4 instructors to collectively lose weight during a period of 4 weeks.
U 2 Can Move is an initiative started in 2012 by then Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams to promote an active lifestyle amongst especially women. This program continues with activities such as Zumba classes and exercises 3 times weekly. At any given session, 30-plus women and girls take active part. Move ‘N Lose is a fun way to deal with a serious topic: Women’s health.
This World Health Day’s observance focuses on diabetes under the theme: “Beat Diabetes.â€
“The causes are complex, but the increase is in large part due to rapid increases in overweight, including obesity and physical inactivity.†(WHO website)
Participants in the 2 Move ‘N Lose groups will devise additional activities to “beat†the other team at the combined number of pounds lost at the end of the period.
