PHILIPSBURG:--- Parents of students attending the Lionel Connor School in Cole Bay are upset now that the school now that management is forcing them to purchase school uniforms from the Principal of the school. Some of the parents contacted SMN News and stated that the school changed their uniforms and instead of allowing them to purchase the new uniforms from stores at a cheaper price they are being forced to purchase their school uniforms from the Principal whose shirts ranges between $12 to $18 depending on the sizes. The parents said the same shirts they could get at the stores in Philipsburg for $8 and they want to know why they must buy the uniforms from the school principal. “According to us this is a conflict of interest and the person is not a teacher she is a school manager and to be fleecing monies out of parents for her private business to flourish is not something that should be allowed.”
SMN News asked the Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs if she was aware of the prices. The Minister said she knows that the uniforms are being changed because Lionel Connor School and Charles Leopold Bell School merged. She said that the last time she visited the school there were students wearing different uniforms but management have decided to make the change. She promised to look further into the matter even though she does not to thread on the toes of the school managements.
