PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Many persons are now breathing a sigh of relief, as the United St. Maarten Party held a press conference on Friday to brushed aside what they described as rumors regarding the formation of the next government.

it was on Sunday, three political parties signed an agreement aimed at the formation of the next government for St. Maarten.

The three parties are the National Alliance who received four (4) seats in the parliamentary election, the Democratic Party two (2) seats and the United St. Maarten Party (2) seats.

Following the outcome of the parliamentary elections, the three political party decided to work together in what they say was for the best interest of St. Maarten and its people.

Since the accord was signed, there has been the floating of rumors on Social media about the number 2 candidate on the slate of the United St. Maarten Party, Leona Romeo Marlin about jumping ship to join force with the United People's Party of Theo Heyliger, who received 7 seats in the elections of Friday August 29th.

Those rumors, however, were put to rest on Friday morning.

Whilst speaking at the press conference, leader of the USP, the Honorable Frans Richardson categorically denied stories that he and or his number 2 candidate, Leona Marlin were seeking to form an alliance with the United People's Party.

According to Frans Richardson stated that ever since the results of the parliamentary elections of August 29th, the US Party has remained committed to doing what is right for the people of this country.

Whilst addressing that issue at the press conference, the leader of the US Party reaffirmed their commitment to working with the National Alliance and the Democratic Party. "We are also signatory to an agreement for the division of portfolios in a new, but yet to be formed government for St. Maarten.

Today, nothing has changed as far as Frans Richardson is concerned," the leader of the US Party told journalists on Friday morning. Mr. Richardson also firmly stated that he has the support of the party board and candidates who contested the past election, and that there was simply no room for any maneuvers that would endanger them from moving forward.

He remarked: "the US Party was formed with the purpose of addressing among others, the socio economic and financial challenges facing St. Maarten."
