PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The Main Voting Bureau meet on Wednesday morning at the Government Administration Building to conduct an analysis of Friday's voting exercise.

The members of the Bureau recounted the votes cast on Friday during the first Parliamentary Election for Country St. Maarten.

This was based on numerous complaints filed by candidates of the various political parties that took part in the Parliamentary elections with the exception of the OSPP party.

MP Johan "Janchie" Leornard of the UP party and Jacinto Mock of the Social Reform Party, filed official complaints with the Central Voting Bureau.

During the recount session on Wednesday there was a fierce race between former Minister Maria Buncamper Molanus and MP Johan "Janchie" Leonard. They both received 204 votes in Friday's election.

The re-count was carried out by the Central Voting Bureau who investigated the invalid votes of the twenty polling stations.

This situation also provided the basis for a re-count which was decided upon by the Central Voting Bureau during a 45 minute meeting which deliberated the re-count request.

In the end, MP Johan "Janchie" Leonard is expected to maintain his seat in Parliament because he had a higher position on the list of the UP party (number 7) as opposed to former Minister Maria Buncamper Molanus (number 21).

Chairman of the Central Voting Bureau Attorney Jason Rogers gave an outline of the process followed by the Bureau on Wednesday. His comments can now be heard via PodCast as well as an interview with MP Johan "Janchie" Leonard on the topic of the re-count.
