Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The National Alliance family would like to extend condolences and words of encouragement and HOPE to the people and government of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Natural disasters have an uncanny way of bringing communities, islands and countries together.
Though the destruction and devastation wreaked by TS Erika, still needs to be properly assessed, it is clear that much emergency aid will be needed in the coming weeks.
The photos and videos, testimonies of survival and tragedy are heart wrenching. As good neighbours we should extend a helping hand to our Caribbean brothers and sisters in whatever way possible and it is our HOPE that our government is doing just that.
Many efforts are already underway and we encourage all St. Mariners to assist in any way possible by bringing water, non-perishables, toiletries, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding to the approved drop off sites.
We should be very grateful to have been spared the ravages of the TS and should be ever vigilant as the season goes until the end of November. More tropical systems are developing and require monitoring, so please take all necessary precautions in advance.
Our prayers go out for safe passage through any future storms as well for the survivors and victims of TS Erika in Dominica as well as their families who are still awaiting word all around the world.
Seeing the serious possibilities of severe flooding, landslides and storm surge, we look forward to government’s response in terms of plans for preventative measures to minimize the negative impact on St. Maarten should we experience heavy rainfall over a short period of time in our current condition.
We can all learn and take positive actions from what has occurred during the past week.
