CUPECOY--Colombia will experience the culinary excellence for which St. Maarten is known when the island’s Iron Chef Dino Jagtiani of Temptation restaurant demonstrates his culinary alchemy at the 2015 Sabor Barranquilla gastronomic event in South America, August 21-23.

Jagtiani is only international chef at the event from the Caribbean. Other invited international chefs include Chefs Mikel Alonso of Spain, Narda Lepes and Marcelino Gómez of Argentina.

The St. Maarten-born Culinary Institute of America (CIA) graduate will have two 90-minute cooking demonstrations. He has chosen to prepare Conch Escabich with Johnny Cakes inspired by From Yvette’s Kitchen to Your Table cookbook. He will also make coconut curried langostines (lobster) and a coconut cake with dulce de leche truffle, and passion fruit sauce.

A video showcasing what St. Maarten has to offer visitors will play in the background as the chef prepares his dishes with a backdrop of the St. Maarten Flag.

“I will talk to the attendees of my demo at Sabor Barranquilla about St. Maarten and the fact that it very easy for Colombians to visit our country, as there is no longer a visa required,” said the chef.

“I am so proud to represent St. Maarten alongside chefs from Europe, South and Central America. Every culinary event is an experience and a way to sharpen my skills. They also provide the perfect platform to introduce St. Maarten to new people,” said Jagtiani.

Chef Jagtiani, who co-authored Awaken Your Senses: Temptation Cookbook, thanked Tourism Minister Claret Connor for supporting him as the St. Maarten representative chef.

Recommendations for chefs to take part in the culinary event were sought from tourism offices of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Maarten by the Sabor Barranquilla’s organizers. Jagtiani was recommended by St. Maarten, based on his record of representing the country at many culinary events and competitions.

Sabor Barranquilla began in 2008 and has emerged as a space to highlight the culinary values of the Caribbean and to present the amalgam of flavours present in Colombia and abroad.
