Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Independent Member of Parliament, the Honorable Leona Romeo-Marlin is of the opinion that the vision of the University of St. Maarten (USM) should be expanded in the area of obtaining more revenues for the institution.
According to her, St. Maarten is strategically placed in the Caribbean, where it can capitalize in educational tourism.
She remarked: "With the vision that USM and the Minister of Education have, I am sure within short we can recruit persons from within the Caribbean region to come here to study. So we need to expand."
The Member of Parliament was at the time, speaking during a meeting of the Permanent Committee of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs of the House of Parliament, at which time, USM made a presentation on among others, some of their challenges.
The MP also made reference to the MOU signed between USM and the University of the USVI, and questioned the possibility of USM working with the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Director at the University of St. Maarten is Dr. Francio Guadeloupe. In responding to some of the question posed by Member of Parliament, the Honorable Leona Romeo-Marlin addressed among others, the relationship with the Charlotte Brookson Academy, which is currently housed at USM.
