MARIGOT:--- Members of the Souliga United Movement (SUM) and several other organizations announced on Tuesday at a press conference that they will begin a peaceful protest on Wednesday morning against the border controls that have been extended until October 1st, 2020 by the Prfet Dlgu Sylvie Feucher.
The group of activists called on everyone residing on St. Maarten/ St. Martin to join forces to protest the division of people and unity that has been orchestrated by the State. Paines: ‘We Want St. Martiners To Be Taken Into Consideration’

MARIGOT--Assurance was given on Friday by protest organisers that there will be no further actions or civil unrest between now and Tuesday, March 15, the date protestors meet again with the Collectivité and Préfète Anne Laubies to hopefully hammer out an agreement acceptable to both the Orient Beach tenants and the Collectivité.

Calm descended on French Quarter after two days of unrest marked by blocked roads culminating Thursday night with a brief episode of violence as Gendarmes forcibly removed barricades.

Social services taking Vrolijk case in hand

MARIGOT-- Vice-President Ramona Connor confirmed the Collectivité's social services has refocused attention on the case of the elderly man Placido Vrolijk to evaluate the situation of the family, following the alarm raised by concerned citizens and neighbours earlier this week.

Social workers of the Collectivité and also from the Dutch side have visited the house on Rue de Pic Paradis.

Vrolijk (83) was born in Aruba, has Dutch nationality and is currently in poor health, but receives a pension from the Dutch side Read more

Neighbours alarmed over health of elderly man, state of his house

MARIGOT--Neighbours and concerned citizens have raised the alarm over what they believe is a failure of social services to address adequately the situation of a family living in deplorable conditions at 43 Rue de Pic Paradis.

The primary concern is over the health of the senior member of the household, Placido Vrolijk (83), born in Aruba on September 25, 1932. He is currently bedridden and in poor health, and the family is trying to have him moved into a senior citizens home on either the French or Dutch side of the island.
