What Is Next At Sxm-Airport??

So now that the educated local professional has been fired (unceremoniously, I might add), Who will get the job to run things at PJIAE?
What will be the requirements for the new CEO?
Must it be a man? Can it be a woman?
Must he/she be a born-here?
Must he/she have a specific skin color?
Must he/she come from a specific cultural background
Must he/she have experience in (re-)building international airports?
Must he/she have experience in professionally running an international airport?
Must he/she be able to think for him/herself?
Must he/she be able to on a high level deal with financiers, bondholders, bankers, lawyers and government?
Must he/she be capable of and prepared to kiss butts?
When asked to jump, must he/she have the frame of mind not to ask why, but how high?

Answers to these questions may give the island population a better insight in what could be the next chapter in the saga of getting the airport fully restored, up and running sooner than later Read more

Letter To The Editor

Parliamentarians asking to merge the PJIAE and PJIAH boards???!!! So one company owning assets and operations?

How about Government making the PJIAH go Poofff, take back the ownership of all the assets, and sign an agreement with the PJIAE to operate the lot. Use the money they save by not having to pay Big Money to PJIAH brass, that was not the case when Mr. Joseph Peterson ran a tight ship (alone and for peanuts, I might add) to re-employ some laid off SXM Airport workers in dire need Read more

Carnival Should Not Go Ahead

As a former President of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation I stand in support of St. Martin of Tours Parish Priest Father Adam in asking our Government to CANCEL all plans and REFUSE issuing the necessary permits for CARNIVAL 2021.

And just in case there were thoughts of it, do the same for the HEINEKEN REGATTA. Hopefully the Collectivit will also deny permits for Carnival on the French side of the island. NONE of these events where NO ONE can truly control crowds getting in each others faces, must take place this year to prevent more havoc on our health system and by extension on our really screwed up economy!

As much as I personally LOVE the annual event, the idea to organize St Read more

I just read a letter sent to His Excellency Governor Eugene B. Holiday by Renate Brison, Secretary of the Pro Soualiga Foundation that starts with: Pro Soualiga, on behalf of the population of St. Maarten, etc., etc.

Just to be clear and for the record:

Letter To The Editor: Know Better?

Michael Ferrier: Know Better? Do Better. Most of the questions you ask, you should ask yourself or the same people you endorse:

1. Fix the potholes in our roads.

Perhaps if you paid the NAF 1.4 millionyou owe to the government we wouldn’t have an issue of potholes. You really think people forgot about this, and you begging the Council of Ministers back then to right it off?

The Decolonization Noise.

Endorsing the comments and observations by Sarah Wescot Williams and Melissa Gumbs regarding all the noise about De-Colonization, I ask Grisha Heyliger, Rolando Brison, George Pantophlet and all other noisemakers: What, according to your coalition, are Governments immediate plans to:

Food For Thought (Part Ii)

UPDATED FOOD FOR THOUGHT (PART II): I am an eternal optimist. The glass is always half full rather than half empty. My Letter to the Editor of April 9, 2020, entitled FOOD FOR THOUGHT in which I concluded THIS COUNTRY STATUS EXPERIMENT HAS FAILED, for some may have been considered out of character for me. But, the forced business closure due to COVID-19 required by Government (a move I endorsed and applauded), while business owners still have to operate under the yoke of 50-year-old archaic Labor Laws, do that to a person! How is it POSSIBLE or FAIR that owners and managing directors of Private Sector businesses remain TOTALLY responsible for 100% of the full salaries of ALL their employees, while sales have mandatorily been reduced to ZERO by the very Government that enforces those archaic Labor Laws? WHERE IS THE SOCIAL CATCH NET THAT ANY RESPONSIBLE COUNTRYS GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE IN PLACE IN CASE OF DISASTERS?

Having to cut back salaries to stay afloat, while the government hemmed and hawed about a previously agreed-upon 10% cut of their salaries, was the drop that caused my bucket of frustration to run over Read more

We Are All In This Together, Right?

The spirit of compromise seems to be in short supply these days. A pity really and also a bit baffling. The Coronavirus does not discriminate. With few exceptions, every country, creed or color, must accept that they/we are not safe from the virus. The only action that is safe requires us to stay apart; the so-called social distancing. At first, we had to stay apart, together to survive. This solidarity, at least from a health perspective was automatic. Economically, the situation is quite different.

Lockdown has caused financial knockdown for most in the Private Sector Read more

Part # 2: The Conspiracy To Ruin Mp Christopher Emmanuel,.

Dear Editor,

And so we continue

ON QUOTE: The advice is already on the Council of Ministers agenda, so we only need to ensure that the complete file in hard copy is signed by everyone and then submitted to the Secretariat, as quickly as possible. If you adjust the attached advice and draft the decree, then VROMI will take care of the necessary signatures.

Bribery

The Oxford dictionary defines a bribe as: a sum of money or something valuable that you give or offer to somebody to persuade them to help you, especially by doing something dishonest

In part one of this series of articles I (the writer “To be Continued”) brought to light the fact that the accusations against MP Christopher Emmanuel and his Chief of Staff that procedures were not followed where it pertains to the issuance of government long lease land is a fabrication, as there is no policy and thus no structural procedures.

In the article, mention was made of certain players involved in the entire conspiracy Read more

Prime Minister Romeo-Marlin And Minister Ferrier Hold Successful Consultation With Dutch Prime Minister Rutte

SINT MAARTEN/THE NETHERLANDS – “It was a great meeting,” were the sentiments of Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin and Minister of Finance Michael Ferrier following their meeting with Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte on Thursday morning in Den Haag.

“Where is the integrity in government?”

PHILIPSBURG:--- Interim Minister of Finance Micheal Ferrier, former Minister of Finance and consultant for the Ministry of Finance Martin Hassink, Arno Peels the Secretary-General of Finance, and Rodney Richardson boarded a Pilatus aircraft with registration number M-YFLY on Tuesday as they head out to Curacao where they will board KLM to continue their journey to Brussels to seek financing for a Waste to Energy Plant (WTE) for St. Maarten.
The aircraft belongs to well-known businessman Saro Spadaro, a personal friend of interim Minister of Finance Michael Ferrier.
It should be noted that both Ferrier and Spadaro have their own private aircraft and are holders of a pilot license but they do not have a commercial pilot license that would authorize them to transport passengers, especially a government delegation.
When the delegation arrived at the Princess Juliana International Airport a number of photographs were taken as the concern persons want to know where government integrity is especially when they begin to wheel and deal with persons within the business community especially since the current interim government supported the establishment of an integrity chamber on St Read more
