Fellow St. Maarteners,
Residents of our beautiful island,
Ladies and Gentlemen.

Six years ago, St. Maarten embarked on a new constitutional journey with the attainment of the status of the autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It was a journey that started with the referendum of 2000; a journey that took a whole decade. Six years ago, we lowered the flag of the Netherlands Antilles forever and kept our own flag flying. We had arrived at 10-10-10 full of pride, full of enthusiasm and eager to meet the high expectations of our people.
Critics of that achievement may point to the fact that those expectations have not been fully met Read more

How Important/Valid Is Your Vote?

PHILIPSBURG:--- I know before hand that this topic will be somewhat controversial but allow me to express what I saw on election night when the time came to start counting thE ballots.

Throughout the campaign season, many candidates were faced with hearing from most persons just how disgruntled they became and were actually considering not going out to vote. It was difficult, but all parties tried our best in explaining just how important voting is and why every vote matters.

While at the Dutch Quarter Community Center I saw something that I honestly couldn't believe Read more

The rate of change in the world today conceivably has never been faster. Many of the old systems applied to growth and development are rapidly changing into new forms too different to be fully understood.
The old pattern of a few countries mining the rest of the world for raw materials and reseeding just enough with goods and services to successfully repeat the cycle has been replaced by something else. Global growth and development are no longer almost solely reliant upon the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and one or two other global financial institutions; it now includes significant support from developing countries that once were the countries being mined as a raw material resource.
China is perhaps the indisputable leader of this new growth and development group Read more

PHILIPSBURG:--- More and more the people of St. Maarten are saying openly that they will not vote, some of them have expressed their decisions on various social media. It is also clear that the politicians that made promises especially to the younger generation abandoned them the day after the election and the only thing they were left with is either the false promises or the few bucks they got for their vote the last time around Read more
