PHILIPSBURG:--- Representatives of the department of Economic Licenses held an informative session with the Community Police Officers and young cadets of the Sint Maarten Police force on Friday, January 31, 2020.
The session related to licensing policies and procedures, opening hours regulations and dealing with infractions encountered within the business community and within public transportation.

PHILIPSBURG: --- The Council of Ministers have decided to grant the management team of GEBE another 6-month contract for them to finalize a loan with Windward Islands Bank (WIB). SMN News learned the GEBE management has been in discussion with the local bank for a 48M USD loan, sources say the bank asked that there be some stability with GEBE management since they began discussions with the current management team for the loan for the utility company and the bank wants to continue and finalize the discussions with the same team since they are the ones working with the bank Terms of Reference for the loan.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation started off the Chinese New Year on a positive note donating 260 packages to recipients at its Chinese Lunar Year-End Blessing Ceremony held at the Philipsburg Cultural and Community Center in January.

The 55 volunteers who participated in the event assisted in distributing the packages, each of which contained a box of multi-grain raisin almond cereal, a pack of Club Social biscuits, Nido milk powder, a bottle of jam, Chinese plum and mints.
