Graduation At The Pointe Blanche Prison

POINTE BLANCHE – On Friday, June 23, 40 inmates of the Pointe Blanche Prison received their certificates for the various courses they followed and successfully completed during a graduation ceremony held at the facility.

Certificates were awarded to the graduates in the fields of Music, Christian education, preparations for GED, Mathematics, Computer classes and the English and Dutch languages.

Among the invited guests were: Minister of Justice Rafael Boasman; representing the Minister of Education was Shermina Powell; members of the commission of supervision of the prison Johannes Schols, Ludwina Hodge and Wilfred Manning; coordinator of education at the Miss Lalie Center Lenrich Wilson; and Public Relations Officer for the Minister of Justice Fernando Clark.

The ceremony started at 9:30am with an opening prayer by Reverend Elfreda Lake followed by words of welcome and inspiration to the graduates by Prison Directors Steven Carty and Wilfred Williams.

Road Markings Are Being Painted On A.J.C Brouwers Road

Philipsburg –  Soualiga Infrastructure Company BV was contracted by the Ministry of VROMI to paint the road markings on the A.J.C Brouwers road. So far the roundabout at the top of Cole Bay Hill down to the old cake house intersection have been completed.

Wednesday night the contractor will continue from the old cake house to the roundabout on Bush road. On Thursday the painting of the road markings will continue to the Osborne Kruythoff roundabout.

UPDATE POLICE # 2: Suspect Arrested

ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius – On Sunday June 25, in the afternoon hours, the police on Sint Eustatius (KPCN) arrested the man who was injured early Sunday morning and transported to the hospital.

Mlk Hosts Musical And Awards Day Celebration

 

PHILIPSBURG – The students of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Primary School on Wednesday morning, June 21, participated in a musical and awards day celebration.

Students recapped the life values of Peace, Responsibility, Love, Cooperation, Dependability, Tolerance, Respect, Honesty and Unity, which they learned over this school year during the monthly assembly.

“We continue to strongly promote the development of our students socially, emotionally as well as their overall academic performance,” said School Manager Stuart Johnson.

The students also showcased and highlighted several local musical icons such as King Beau Beau, Calypso Barbara, The Mighty Dow and King Vers.

“It was surely a moment of true pride to see our students being recognized for their hard work and commitment over this school year,” Johnson said.

Last week, yet another annual report was added to the long list of reports that Parliament has in its possession.

The General Audit Chamber, one of the High Councils of State, submitted for the seventh time, its annual report in both the Dutch and English languages. Mark Your Calendar For The Next Breast Abnormalities Screening For June 24

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Saturday, June 17, marked the first day of a two-year breast abnormalities screening survey where 23 women participated in the screening.

The women took the opportunity to pass by the Vineyard Office Park Building in Philipsburg at the Collective Preventive Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), to take part in the survey.
