>PHILIPSBURG:--- On Tuesday April 14th, the final meeting before the official opening of the Festival Village between the Sint Maarten Carnival Development Foundation, Department of VROMI, Department of Economic Affairs and the Police Department was held at the Philipsburg Police Station. The main topics of this meeting were the "Vending and No Vending" zones in the Philipsburg area, the road closure during all of the parades and the "Opening Jump-up."
Attached to this announcement is a digital color layout of Philipsburg and surrounding areas. The areas colored in blue are Front Street- Emmaplein. The W.J.A. Nisbet road starting at the Voges Street at Sundial School until the parking lot at Kitty's Kitchen and the Soualiga Boulevard starting at the Salt Picker round-a-bout to the Little League Ball Park. These are all "NO VENDING" zones.
The areas colored in yellow are the alleys connecting Back Street to Front Street and Front Street to the Board Walk. All alleys also falls under the "NO VENDING" zones and will specifically be used as emergency entrance/exits.
The areas colored in green are the E. Camille Richardson Street (Police Station alley) and Voges Street. These streets will be used driving in the opposite for any emergency in the Point Blanche area.
The areas colored in pink are the "VENDING "zones for permit holders which were issued by the Department of Economic Affairs. Vending without the necessary permit is strictly forbidden. Not complying with this rule can lead to your goods being confiscated and receiving a fine from special team controlling during the carnival season. Vendors are not allowed to set-up the shop in front of any of the light poles.
Please take good note of this information.
OPENING JUMP-UP
The Opening Jump-up is scheduled for Thursday April 16th at 08 p.m. and starting on the L.B. Scot road in the vicinity of Milton Peters College. The targeted time to arrive at the Festival Village is 11.30 p.m. The route to the Festival Village is as follows: L.B. Scot road, turn left at the Church Hill round-a-bout and onto the Bush road, Prins Bernard Bridge, Walter Nisbet road, Salt pickers round-a-bout and ending in front of the Festival Village. A total of five bands are expected to take part in the jump-up. All connecting roads, streets and alleys along the route will be temporarily closed during the passing of the jump-up. These roads will immediately be opened after the jump-up has passed.
At 07.30 p.m.:Traffic on the L.B. Scot road will be closed at the Gladiola road. No more traffic to Sint Peters via the route. The L.B. Scot road will be closed off at the Arbutus road. No traffic towards the Churchill round-a-bout via this route.
At 08.00 p.m.: Gladiola road closed off at Coralita road. No traffic allowed towards the L.B. Scot road. L.B. Scot road closed off at Churchill round-a-bout. No traffic towards Sint Peters and surrounding.
At 08.45 p.m.: A.J.C. Brouwers road closed at Welgelegen road. No traffic will be allowed towards the Churchill roan-a-bout. Bush road will be closed at the Zagersgut road. No traffic towards the Churchill round-a-bout.
At 09.10 p.m.: Zagersgut road closed at Bush road. No traffic towards the Churchill round-a-bout. Prins Bernard Bridge closed. No traffic towards Bush road.
At 09.50 p.m.: A.Th Illidge road and Long wall road closed at the Prins Bernard Bridge. No traffic towards the Walter Nisbet road. Walter Nisbet road closed at W. Percy Labega Street No traffic towards Prins Bernard Bridge.
At 10.10 p.m.: Manzanilla Steeg, Tamarinde Steeg, J. Richardson road closed off at Walter Nisbet road. No traffic towards Walter Nisbet road. Walter Nisbet road closed off at H. Beaujon Street. No traffic towards Prins Bernard Bridge.
At 10.40 p.m.: C.W. Vlaun Street closed off. No traffic towards the Walter Nisbet road. Walter Nisbet road closed off at the Salt Picker round-a-bout. No traffic towards the Walter Nisbet road.
At 11.00 p.m.: Peterson Street closed off at the Salt Picker round-a-bout. No traffic towards the round-a-bout. Walter Nisbet road closed at the Salt Picker Round-a-bout. No traffic coming from the Freedom Fighters round-a-bout. Soualiga Boulevard closed at the Rock Slat drive. No traffic towards the Salt Pickers round-a-bout.
After the jump-up has reached its destination the Salt Pickers round-a-bout will remained closed for traffic towards the Soualiga Boulevard until the pedestrian traffic has completely diminished.
All drivers should take alternative routes to get to their destination. All drivers are advised to take note of this information and give the police all cooperation necessary to make the event a success.
The entire community is reminded that the ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY of the police department remains in effect
CYCLING RACE
The Dutch Riders Cycling Club "Mo trouble" will be holding cycling race on Sunday April 19th 2015 from 02 p.m. until 05 p.m. The race will start at the Raoul Illigde Sport Complex in Cay Hill heading to Bush road, Long Wall road, Little Bay road, Belair to Raoul Illigde Sport complex. 15 laps of this same route will be made and will end at the starting point. All drivers are advised to take note of this information and give all cooperation to make this race a successful event.
