PHILIPSBURG--United People’s (UP) party Member of Parliament Johan Leonard has written to Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams (Democratic Party) seeking information about Windward Islands Airways International Winair possibly owing a Guadeloupe company some US $1.4 million for the wet leasing of an ATR aircraft.

“If Winair owes this amount, Parliament needs to know how Winair will pay this,” said Leonard who wrote to Wescot-Williams in her capacity as shareholder’s representative for Winair. The letter was sent to Wescot-Williams via the President of Parliament as required by law.

He questioned if the Guadeloupe company has threatened to place a lien on Winair’s assets.

“Have the shareholders approved any strategy plan with respect to how the company, Winair, will move forward for the short and long term.” If such a plan exists, he wants Parliament to receive a copy. If none exists, he wants to know what plan Winair is using for its long term operations.

As for the expansion of Winair’s route for which the larger aircraft was needed, Leonard wants to know if a feasibility study was carried out before the routes were introduced. “If so, what were the findings of this study? And I am requesting that Parliament be provided with a copy of that report.”

He said, “If no feasibility plan was in place for this route, what was then the basis used by Winair to invest in such?”
