PHILIPSBURG: --- On January 11th, 2024, voters would have eight (8) political parties to choose from when they reach the polling stations to cast their votes.The eight political parties lit up Philipsburg as they marched to the Parliament Building to submit their lists of caNDidates to the voting bureau that will be contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections.At 9 am the Party for Progress (PFP) marched from Clem Labega Square chairing their leader NDidate' href='/newspolitician/755/melissa-gumbs'>Melissa Gumbs to submit the PFP lists of caNDidates. PFP submitted a list of 10 caNDidates.At 10:30 the USP drove to Parliament with a motorcade. Leader of the Party Pamela Gordon aND President of the Party Cecil Nicolas submitted a list with 11 caNDidates. The SPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtioSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAl Alliance marched from their headquarters on PoNDfill through Front Street with the largest number of sUPPorters. The SPArty/23/national-alliance'>NA went all the way with steelpan music, aND stilt walkers as they marched into the parliament building with a full house. Leader of the SPArty/23/national-alliance'>NA Prime Minister NDidate' href='/newspolitician/548/silveria-jacobs'>Silveria Jacobs submitted a list with 23 caNDidates.At 11:30 the one-man party ECE submitted its list with its leader as Nigel Wigley. ECE, who is contesting the elections for the first time has to secure 134 sigSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtures tomorrow at the Civil Registry to make his party eligible to contest the upcoming elections.In the afternoon after the lunch break the NOW Political party made its way to the Parliament Building. The NOW who will be contesting the Parliamentary elections for the first time submitted a list with 21 caNDidates says its leader Christophe Emmanuel. The NOW also has to secure 134 sigSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtures on Thursday to make the party eligible to contest the 2024 parliamentary elections.The United Peoples Party with the secoND largest number of sUPPorters made their way to the Parliament Building at 2 pm. Leader of the UPP NDidate' href='/newspolitician/712/rolaNDo-brison'>RolaNDo Brison aND its deputy leader NDidate' href='/newspolitician/739/omar-ottley'>Omar Ottley submitted a list with 23 caNDidates. At 3 pm it was the USPArty/12/reussir-saint-martin'>RSM that submitted their list with 19 caNDidates. Leader of the USPArty/12/reussir-saint-martin'>RSM Dr. NDidate' href='/newspolitician/722/luc-merceliSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NA'>Luc MerceliSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NA also has to secure 134 sigSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtures at the Civil Registry tomorrow to make his list eligible to contest the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
At 3:30 pm it was the SPArty/21/democratic-party'>Democratic Party led by NDidate' href='/newspolitician/544/sarah-wescot-williams'>Sarah Wescot Williams that marched through Front Street with a large crowd to submit their lists of 23 caNDidates. Even though the SPArty/21/democratic-party'>DP has contested several elections over the years, its leader also has to secure 134 sigSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtures on Thursday to make the party eligible to contest the 2024 elections. Reasons for this the SPArty/21/democratic-party'>DP did not contest the elections in 2020 aND as such the SPArty/21/democratic-party'>Democratic Party was removed from the voters registry. Also good to note that the SPArty/21/democratic-party'>Democratic Party has about five elderly persons on their lists, the oldest one being 80-year-old confirmed party leader NDidate' href='/newspolitician/544/sarah-wescot-williams'>Sarah Wescot Williams.
