Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
MARIGOT—Velo Club de Grand Case (VCG) held its General Assembly on Monday at which the board went over the 2013 accounts, modified the statutes and reviewed the 2014 racing season and results, before announcing the teams for 2015.
Vice-President of the Collectivité Wendel Cocks, MP Daniel Gibbs, representative from main sponsor Dauphin Telecom, Philippe Morel, and President of the Territorial Cycling Federation Rigobert Benjamin were among audience members for the meeting that was chaired by VCG President St. Elmo Arnell.
As expected there was praise for the younger members of the club, the "future of cycling" in St. Martin, for their outstanding performances during the year, namely Jayson Rousseau, Alban Clerc, Mathéo Patris, Kimani Weinum, Adelio Brooks, and others.
Wendel Cocks in his remarks thanked the club for what it is doing for cycling, and especially in training the youth. Daniel Gibbs and Philippe Morel also gave words of encouragement to the club for another good season.
The club will have racing jerseys with new colours and these are currently being designed.
The teams for the 2015 season are: Team 1 - Senior Division - Ludovic Turpin (Leader, winner of Tour International de la Guadeloupe 2012) - Grégory Blondin (most promising rider in Guadeloupe) - Nicolas Dumont (winner of Tour international de la Guadeloupe 2009) - Jayson Rousseau (from St Martin, Champion of Guadeloupe under 23 and Vice-Champion of Guadeloupe 2014) - Edwige Bélair (very promising rider) - Grégory Errin (Champion of Guadeloupe VTT 2012) - Warren Errin - Steve Chalder - Mike Lanare - Kenny Cyprien - Davy Lake - Dean Hodge (winner of the Mo Trouble Challenge in St Martin 2014), Edward Benitez "Dédou", and Mathéo Patris.
Team 2 (Cadet Division) features Alban Clerc (Caribbean Time Trial champion) - Kimany Weinum - Adélio BROOKS, and some others still to be announced.
The 2015 season begins in February 2015 and will finish in November 2015. The main events VCG will participate in are NAGICO to NAGICO in March, Memorial Sylvère Dulorme in April, Grand Prix du Conseil General in June, Tour de Marie Galante in July, Tour de la Guadeloupe (Cadet) in August and Tour International de la Guadeloupe (seniors).
The meeting closed with a medal presentation to the kitchen staff at the Derrick Lake house that serves as VCG's headquarters.
