Lockdown Jouvert Revelers To Be Fined Or Prosecuted.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs made it clear in her national address on Monday, April 28th that those persons in the Dutch Quarter community that participated in the early morning lockdown Jouvert reveling will be prosecuted or fined. Jacobs said the police (ESF 5) are busy reviewing the videos and will either fine or jail those persons that participated or organized the illegal mash.
Jacobs also called on everyone in the area that knows the participants to ensure they self isolate immediately since they do not know if they were infected.
Jacobs said St. Maarten is under lockdown which would have ended in the next two weeks, however, due to the Monday morning jouvert the EOC now must analyze the situation again before a final decision is taken.
The Prime Minister said there are currently 75 positive cases on St. Maarten, of that amount there are 29 active cases. 220 persons have tested negative, 6 pending with 13 deaths.
Jacobs further explained that government is doing everything it could to mitigate the spread of the virus, she said CPS will continue its community outreach program in the Cul de Sac area this week.
Inspectors from the Department of Economic Affairs are busy conducting price controls due to price gouging. Jacobs said some businesses that caught and fined. She said the fines issued thus far from overpricing are about NAF7,000.00 while fines amounted NAF3,000.00 were issued to businesses that opened their doors illegally.
