St. Dominic High’S Ib Programme Partners With The Omololu International School

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - On January 27th, four students of St. Dominic High School International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) Class of 2018 and their Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Coordinator visited the Omololu International School in Anguilla as a kick-off to celebrate the two IB World Schools working together to create a better world. As part of their CAS curriculum to learn by doing real tasks, that have real consequences, the IBDP class is developing projects that will promote collaboration between the students of St Dominic High and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) at Omololu.

Upon arrival in Anguilla, the students and teacher were taken to the campus of Omololu where they met the Principal Mr. Jordan Scheer and the eight sixth graders. The activities the St. Dominic High IBDP students developed for the primary years students revolved around the IB themes of global engagement, international mindedness, and inclusive education.

The students began the program ice breaker games to get to know the students which progressed to the introduction of the Culture Box. This contained souvenirs and items that represented the island of St. Maarten such as the St. Maarten flag. The IBDP students explained the significance of each color on the flag and what the court of arms symbolized.

The sixth grade students also presented the flag of Anguilla and demonstrated their knowledge about its significance.

In recognition of International Holocaust Day and World Religion Day, the IBDP students organized the following:

a candle lighting ceremony to commemorate the lives that were lost during World War IIt-shirt tie-dying activity that aided in the discussion that different religions in the world add more color and diversity to our lives and community.

The students of the IB Diploma Programme at St. Dominic are looking forward to further developing its partnership with The Omololu International School and fostering a long term relationship within the IB world community.
