Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG – Minister of Sport Silveria Jacobs is pleased that St. Maarten will be hosting one of the pools of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 20 qualifying tournament, with matches having begun on Wednesday night, June 15.
“St. Maarten is proud to be able to support this initiative that the Soccer Association has been awarded this esteemed pleasure, which hosts Cuba, Puerto Rico, Antigua and Barbuda as well as St. Maarten,†Minister Jacobs said at the Council of Ministers press briefing Wednesday, June 15.
Other pools will be played in other Caribbean islands such as Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and the Dominican Republic with the semi-finals and finals in Curaçao. Tuesday night St. Maarten played against Puerto Rico in a double header, with Antigua and Barbuda playing Cuba.
“I take this opportunity to welcome our guests to St. Maarten. This is a wonderful opportunity for sports tourism on St. Maarten and I look forward to the community supporting the St. Maarten soccer under 20 team as they attempt to make this win in this pool so that they can progress to the semi-finals,†Minister Jacobs stated.
