Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG – On Monday, May 15th Member of Parliament (MP) Leona Marlin Romeo, queried the Minister of Sports and Health on the plan of approach on ensuring proper ventilation be in place at all sports auditoriums.
Concerns from residents of Sucker Garden who frequents the Melford Hazel Sports auditorium complained about the heat in the facility.
The Member of Parliament also questioned whether there will be some sort of awareness campaign done to inform athletes and parents about the importance of pre-participation physical examinations. These exams are essential and must be mandatory for athletes in our schools and those physically participating in team sports.
Whether such an examination is already part of the school/sports policy was also a question posed by MP Leona Marlin-Romeo.
Identifying athletes that could be at risk for further injury and ensuring that they are referred to more medical evaluations before allowing them to participate is vital.
Globally this is an issue and many countries have taken preventive measures to avoid the risks involved.
Parents must also be cognizant and forthcoming about the medical history of their children so that the sports organizations are aware and can act accordingly stated the Member of Parliament.
It is imperative for all of us to ensure that preventative measures are in place to avoid any more fatal incidents stated Member of Parliament Leona Marlin Romeo.
