Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs, who is also Minister of General Affairs and responsible for the Fire Department, invites the general public to the departments Open House on Sunday, November 1 at the Fire Station in Cay Hill.
The Open House is part of the departments Fire Prevention Month of activities that kicked off on October 1st under the theme: ‘Smoke Detectors Saves Lives.’
The month long activities included a fire safety awareness workshop for all primary school third graders; installation of smoke detectors in selected houses in some districts; a lecture/workshop for architects and engineers; and the final event which is the open house and fire safety expo on Sunday.
The Open House is from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The general public will get the opportunity to meet the fire fighters; meet safety retailers; see live demonstrations; and tour the fire trucks on display.
“The Open House and Expo is once again an opportunity and initiative by the Fire Department to promote safety to residents and homeowners about ways to reduce the risk of fire, and also know how to respond in the event of a fire breaking out in your home. There are many things that household owners can do to help keep their families and their possessions safe from fires.
“The campaign has been very much relevant as it teaches the younger generation about fire safety. I encourage our community to take part in the final activity planned and be informed about what you can do to make your home safe from fire,†Minister of General Affairs Marcel Gumbs said on Thursday.
