PHILIPSBURG--New Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI Claret Connor has confirmed with Parliament that answers to the pertinent questions about the landfill, as discussed in the urgent plenary session on Friday, can be expected on Friday, September 25.

Therefore, another follow-up plenary session scheduled tentatively for Thursday, October 1, depending on the status of these answers, should be able to go forward as planned.

Member of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams, who along with MPs William Marlin and Silveria Jacobs had requested Friday’s session, asked Chairman of Parliament Dr. Lloyd Richardson on Tuesday at the start of a separate plenary session whether a response had been received from the minister as promised on Monday.

According to the tentative schedule referred to by Richardson on Friday, the available opening was for 2:00pm on October 1. He said he hoped the MPs could receive the answers for perusal long before this date.

Friday’s session had been called to discuss hazardous conditions at the dump site, the site’s limitations and the on-and-off plans for a waste-to-energy plant. It was characterised by a sense of urgency, overdue action and obscurity of information regarding plans for the long-talked-about waste-to-energy plant.

The meeting had started at 10:30am, the first round of questions concluded around 4:30pm and it was decided that Minister Connor would let Parliament know on Monday when he would be able to answer the questions.
