PHILIPSBURG--Opposition National Alliance (NA) and Democratic Party ((DP)) have requested an urgent meeting of Parliament about the out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed amount made by St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies and Zebec, the company that was contracted to develop the Dutch Village.

The parties want the meeting called in the stipulated four days for an urgent session as is outlined in the Rules of Order of Parliament.

The opposition parties stated in their request motivation that the government-owned company had labelled the court action by Zebec as “wholly without merit” and that Zebec's claims were a “blatant misrepresentation of facts." The Harbour Group had also said it would "look into options of recovering damages from Zebec."

"Now we learn from newspaper reports that Zebec is being paid out and the details are subject to a non-disclosure clause," (DP) leader Member of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams said in a press statement on Thursday.

She questioned what could have transpired that caused "such a drastic turn" that the Harbour Group "rather than recover damages, has to pay damages."
