PHILIPSBURG--The three men who carried out a brazen daylight robbery at Helena Jewellers on Front Street on Friday were captured on camera fleeing the scene with their faces masked and holding about four bags.

The camera footage was handed over to police about an hour after the robbery. St. Rose Arcade’s cameras, which focus on different angles along that section of Front Street, captured the three men fleeing the scene with the bags in their hand. The content of the bags is suspected to be their loot from the jewellery store and possibly their weapons as well. The robbers are suspected of fleeing on a scooter that was parked nearby, which was also captured in the video.

One of the robbers was wearing a blue top; one a black top and the other a striped top. All had on dark coloured bottoms.

In an invited comment, St. Rose Arcade manager Jelle Hamstra said that while most of the businesses had cameras inside their stores, robberies in town would be solved more easily and quickly if all businesses put at least two cameras outside their stores. This way it would be easier to detect getaway vehicles and possibly the robbers before they put on their masks.

Police spokesperson Inspector Steven Carty said on Friday that the three armed men had committed the robbery around 11:20am Friday. The robbers managed to steal an undisclosed amount of merchandise from the store.

Carty urged anyone with information about the case to contact the Detective Department at tel. 542-2222. Persons who want to provide information anonymously can contact the police tip line tel. 9300.
