PHILIPSBURG--Democratic Party ((DP)) leader Member of Parliament (MP) Sarah Wescot-Williams said Sunday that her proposal on electoral reform has met with a "favourable reaction" from the Presidium of Parliament and as a result it will be taken up for discussion in the legislature. The proposal was submitted by her in 2014 when she served as prime minister.

The proposal for reform covers possible amendments to the Constitution, electoral ordinance and the ordinance on registration and finances of political parties and to the Rules of Order of Parliament.

"After several discussions in Parliament, which as Prime Minister I initiated, this paper was regretfully shelved by Parliament. In June, now in my capacity as MP, proposed to Parliament to have the legal advisor of Parliament further on these proposals, after receiving a quotation to do the relevant work," she said.

"I have recently been informed that this will take place, which of course I welcome. I look forward to the firm decision by Parliament to outsource this project and to the resulting proposals for debate in Parliament," said Wescot-Williams.
