Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
MARIGOT--Francis Jacobs continued his record-breaking run of wins at the fifteenth Annual Ram Beauty Contest in Colombier on Sunday with his prized ram Chalk Dust again winning the prestigious Boer category.
Jacobs, who had several winning entries at the show organised by I Love My Ram Association, has produced winners for seven consecutive years.
"I guess I'm just good at looking after my animals," he said modestly. "I put a lot of hours into it."
With more entries in the Boer class than usual, they were divided into three categories. With Chalk Dust taking first in the first category, Jacobs was successful again with Future in second place, while Alain Richardson was in third place with Amos.
Jacobs also clinched all three places in category two: Young Blood took the first spot, White Dice second and White Diamond third.
Billy Brown, owned by Stanley, won the Boer third category; Michael, owned by Alain Richardson, was second; and Chalk, owned by Francis Jacobs, took third.
In the Nubian category, Soldier Boy was first, Buckhole second and Motherless third.
The contest this year was moved back to its original and more intimate location at the very top of the village, where the public could mix with the rams and goats under the trees and enjoy the local food and Presidente beer while listening to DJ Ruby.
Opening remarks were made earlier in the morning by Territorial Councillor Jean-David Richardson and Sarah Wescot-Williams, whose late husband was not only a long-time participant, but also an avid supporter of the contest.
Aside from DJ Ruby, entertainment was provided by New Status Generation Band, who put on a polished show of precision drumming.
Owen January and Ursula Oppikofer were the two judges for the contest. The event was sponsored by Presidente beer, the Collectivité, SDL, GEDC Fuel, Back Pro (Olivia), SAS Development, I Love My Island Dog (for trophies) and Rapido Print.
