Champions crowned in School Soccer Tourney

BELVEDERE—Champions were crowned as the 23rd edition of the Interscholastic Soccer Tournament closed at the Cruyff Court in Belvedere, Saturday.  
  The tournament was organised by the St. Maarten Soccer Educational Foundation (SMSEF) and sponsored by the TelEm Group of Companies. The competition featured 44 teams representing 10 elementary schools plus five more schools feed into the combined teams.

11+Under
  Learning Unlimited Goal Machines were crowned the 11 and Under Division champions.  They defeated Sister  Regina Goal Getters 7 – 2.  Noah Ledee led Learning Unlimited with four goals and one assist.  Jan Lucas van der Plaas netted two and Oliver Hobgood one.  Devin Liao supported the strikers with two assists.
  William Mulder and Reshawn Eustase scored for Sister Regina.
   Leonald Connor bested Sister  Magda FC 5 – 1 to take third place.  Philando Parchment led the winning offence with three  goals and one assist. Tyrese Whyte and Drae Murray each scored oncel.
  Jaden Leonard scored the lone goal for Sister Magda.

Girls 13+U Final
Leonald Connor bested Hillside Christian All Stars 4-1 to claim the Girl’s 13 and Under Division. Karoline Quispe de los Santos, Stephanie Medina-Bran and Dorothy James netted for Connor.  Desreena Boston scored off an assist by Zanzi Brook for All Stars.
  Sister Magda earned third place.

13+U F
  Leonald Connor also won the open 13 and Under group besting Ruby Labega 6 – 2.  Gamy Charles led the winning effort with three goals and Isael Medina-Bran scored twice.
  Ricardo Sommers scored both  goals for Ruby Labega.
  SXM Schools United took third place defeating Charles Leopold Bell 5-2.  Jean Jacques Craane scored three times while Amadeus Aventurin and Michele Palella each scored once for the win.
  The finals were followed by the award ceremony attended by Member of Parliament  Silveria Jacobs, Head of the Department of Sports Jonelle Richardson,  teachers,  school principals , family and friend.
  The fourth place teams received a certificate as consolation. The top three in each category received a team trophy and individual medals for the players made possible by the tournament’s main sponsor TelEm. The team also received monetary vouchers to assist the school’s soccer program worth either NAf  500,  300  or  200.
  Individual prizes were awarded in each category for Best Goal Keeper, Best Defensive Player, Point Getter and Most Valuable Player. In addition, there was a trophy for the Most Disciplined Team in each category.

Point Getter Award: Desreena Boston (Hillside Chistian All Stars)
MVP: Karoline Quispe de los Santos (Leonald Connor)
Most Disciplined Team: Dr. Martin Luther King

  A special plaque was awarded to D’Angelo Thompson, a student of Dr. Martin Luther King, for assisting with the refereeing.
  Rudi Groman was honored by becoming an Honorary Board Member of the St. Maarten Educational Foundation. And the prize giving was concluded with the presentation of a special token of appreciation to Tournament Director  Fennechien Croes-de Vries for her work as the (Interim) Tournament Director of the SMSEF Interscholastic Soccer Tournament for the last four years.
