PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell on Monday received a courtesy call from Indian Ambassador Smita Purushottam at the House of Parliament.

Ambassador Purushottam's visit is of a courtesy nature to meet the Governor, President of Parliament and Prime Minister as well as to meet with Indian nationals.

President Arrindell stated on Tuesday that the Ambassador is stationed in Venezuela.

"The Ambassador's visit was to acquaint herself with the institutions of the country. We exchanged views and gifts and had a very pleasant discussion.

"I believe that as country we should explore exchanges in the areas of education, culture, youth and business opportunities. During the Indian event on Monday evening organized by the merchants, to celebrate the 86th Independence Day of the Republic of India, I brought up the exchanges.

"I even suggested collaboration for a film festival which has been pursued by Jordan Hunt.

Having a festival during the low season was enthusiastically received by those in attendance especially seeing that this would be a niche market for the country to develop," President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell said on Tuesday.

President Arrindell received an invitation on Monday to attend the Indian event that same evening.
