Good Bye Carnival 2015, Hello 2016 As Scdf Announces Dates

St. Maarten – Carnival 2015 has come to an end and work has already started for the 2016 carnival season. St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) President Michael Granger, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication Claret Connor and Marketing Director Rolando Brison all thanked the public for supporting the 2015 activities and promised noting but bigger and better events for the 2016 carnival season.

The burning of King Momo took place close to Midnight in Festival Village on Tuesday morning. The evening started with the annual last lap Jump Up which started in front of Builders Paradise in Cay Hill. The Jump up led by the queens of carnival made its way just after 11PM to the village. Fire-dancer Jason Carter had the honor of setting the stuffed doll known as King Momo in flames.

Granger also announced that the 2016 season would run April 14 to May 3. They thanked sponsors, the SCDF membership and all stakeholders that had made Carnival possible. ILTT awarded Adeline Gumbs, Leena Gumbs and Betty Peterson all access passes for the 2016 season. Most creative décor booth went to Anique Arrindell who won NAF, 1,000 with a Heineken give packet. The SCDF also announced that Jouvert Warriors are the 2015 best Jouvert troupe. After serving 3 years as President, Michael Granger will become the foundations first executive director. The director will be in charge of everything carnival year round. The foundation is yet to make the official announcement of the appointment.
